You have no way of knowing if they're repulsed or not. They might just not be noticing you in a more than casual way. Crying isn't an expression, it's more of a function, like peeing. Also, the amount of smiling, looking concerned, frowning and other funny faces you have to perform while in public greatly outweighs the amount of crying you do at home.

It keeps you from looking un-fit. You might be overstating how easy it is to get jacked. Also it changes the way you hold yourself. Your last paragraph is correct.

They already have the fun memories, so they're comfortable settling with a more secure guy. Also, you learn a lot about what you want from these relationships, you end up liking different people. So they may end up liking stabler guys, and even if it's not as much, it's enough to get commitment.

Good question. It has something to do with history, an aversion to female desire, and economics. Historically, most women had to marry for their livelihood, and as such ended up with whomever was available, ideally a nice, boring guy, but not one she would've picked otherwise.
