I'd argue it stems from the over abundance of male "warrior-like" characters. Men have been stigmatized to serve in battle both in reality and in their representation in Game of Thrones. I think the point of feminism though is to get to a point where women are socially encouraged to be equally involved in the same work as men. I don't think most women enjoy the thought of being a burden for men to take care of. Maybe some do, but is it right that some do? Or should we encourage young women to be able to function equally well as men?

What? One commenter was very helpful showing some of the underlying causes of the gender gap. I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm trying to offer another perspective. Fair points. I completely agree in this aspect as well "Where I see effort lacking though is in encouraging women to be more accepting of men who aren't in high-earning jobs." There's work to be done on both sides of this. It's not simply a burden on feminism to take action, but also men's rights groups working on continuing the culture for the right balance between each gender.

This post may be the most convincing to me out of all the responses that the earnings gap is a men's right issue as much as a women's right issue. I'll still say though feminism should work to eliminate female privilege and bring them to an equal level with men's status. The same should be done with men's rights. Feminism at it's core is not an enemy to men's rights -- it's a counterpart to men's rights in the fight for equal rights among each gender. Everything I've read suggests that the pay gap does still exist today in much larger numbers than what you've suggested. I'm typically totally open to discussion with people but you seem incredibly crass and I don't think there's be any healthy debate at all between us. Most other commenters have objected to me but have been much more polite.

You're right. The information in the older study is very valid, but I agree the changes are too significant to directly relate to today. With that said, the pay gap is still a reality and I'm surprised that this sub would object to that. The fight should be for equality not a slew of comments berating the opposite end (feminism) which desires the exact same thing -- equality. No. I'm saying if there's a law firm and women lawyers are given a lower salary than men lawyers than that is an abject problem for women to fight for. I'm not quite sure what you thought I meant or how you interpreted my comment in that way. My point would be more akin to a woman secretary being given a lower salary than a man secretary -- which the study I posted in an adjacent comment shows to be the case.

I think some extreme forms of feminism take it too far, but the balance in rights and how men and women differ culturally is a battle both sides need to fight for. Feminism is the fight for equality for women. Equality does not mean they'll be better treated... it mean's exactly that -- being equal. Well, you need to look at jobs that are direct rivals to each other rather than comparing the still evolving tendencies for women to choose other fields than the ones shown in men's rights. If you turn to page 14 you can see this study goes through exactly that -- women's jobs relative to comparable men's jobs -- and the differences in pay among them. This isn't men's rights this is just anti feminism... I mean it's literally from the anti feminism twitter account. The issue with equal pay for woman comes in directly correlated fields showing women getting less pay then men -- especially in corporate jobs.
