I did a search and found similar discussions in the Badger and Blade forums: "Gillette had an ownership stake in Wilkinson Sword for a very short time in the early '90s as the company was going through ownership changes. I'm not business savvy so I had to re-read a few articles and definitions to understand you. It seems my earlier statements about a massive monetary loss were not entirely accurate. Thankfully, your post makes more sense. It would be impossible to quantify the number of customers who will never return to Gillette but I think time will tell. Correct. In that case, Schick is your best option. Keep safety razors and wet shaving in the back of your mind if you want to try something different that's a lot cheaper and environmentally friendly than normal cartridge shaving. I haven't been able to find anything to support this. My Astra blades clearly say Gillette and P&G so there's no confusion there. I tried to find out more on the Wilkinson Sword Wiki page but it left me confused. If I'm reading it right, Wilkinson Sword is owned by Edgewell Personal Care, which is owned by Energizer Holdings and Schick.

As you can see, you're not alone. I also choose to boycott Gillette on principle. I've got nothing against Schick. They released a funny ad in response to the Gillette one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=60&v=RF-iYC5W6Mo But I want to recommend you try double edge safety razors as many have done here. To answer your question, I would strongly recommend safety razors which use double-edge (DE) blades. I too don't shave much and this was by far the best option for me economically and environmentally. I also transitioned away from Gillette on principle. What a disgusting ad! And what a delight to see the company suffer an $8-billion loss. Karma bitches! Going back on topic, I started out with a cheap plastic beginner razor made by Feather. I know this post is 2 months old but I'd like to re-discuss something. By now you would have read about Gillette suffering an $8-billion loss and many were quick to blame this on the controversial ad. Gillette's response was to say the loss was a "price worth paying" which is nonsense as they are a profitable global corporation and not a political party. Hi bestkindofcorrect, may I ask which razor blade brand(s) you bought for $50. I'm interested. I transitioned to DE shaving and one of the biggest factors was the environmental impact. Gillette have acted all high and mighty with their ad but I bet they would refuse to discuss this equally if not more important issue.
