Realty interesting, thanks. Despite concerted efforts to address hate speech targeting women and misogyny in broad sense, research on online misandry remains relatively scarce. Nadim et al. show that more men than women experience online harassment, contrary to prevailing assumptions. Our findings therefore indicate that online gender-based hate speech, whether directed at women or men, should be regarded with equal seriousness.

As parent said, take action in the real world. Write to your representative about a men's issue that you feel strongly about. What I'm also doing is creating a wiki of my personal thoughts and opinions, connecting things together in a kind of mind map and reasoning through why I believe what I believe. I'm also collecting articles, research, etc on issues so I have a ready source of facts when debating.

I think you need to reassess your goals. Feminism is an ideology concerned with the rights and issues of women and women only. It's not in feminism's remit to care one iota about men. But... that's ok! What we and society need to establish balance is healthy masculism, and for masculism to be acceptable in political debate. Feminism affects sensitive men the most, and is ignored by the men who are the origins of social movements like #MeToo. You can argue that you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. Well, feminism just broke the good eggs, but women are still eating the rotten ones. That's an amazing insight, I'd never thought of it that way.

Actually, no. We have to work to make that happen. Write to your elected representative. Let them know that these issues matter to you as a voter. Raise awareness online and IRL, especially in environments where that message hasn't been heard before. It took women decades to start enacting change. Hopefully, with the more rapid dissemination of information available now, it will be quicker for us, but we have to be in it for the long haul.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Out of interest, do you have any opinions as to why things are starting to change? Personally, I see signs of change from the old "men bad, women good" narrative, but it's in its infancy and not (yet) reflected in the main stream.

I'm sorry to hear that you encounter it so often. I guess we move in different circles. All I can say is that I've come to the realisation, over the past few years, that men need to start educating themselves to these arguments and arguing back with authority. It's not something men have ever had to do before, which is why it seems so socially unacceptable currently, but the pendulum has swung way too far.

Interesting timing! Did you read this post by Richard Reeves this morning? His point is that many women often enjoy the male gaze. Something I always think when I get annoyed by this crap: the people that generate this stuff don't represent the overwhelming number of normal women and men living in the real world, who've probably never even heard of the male gaze, or given it a second thought. The internet isn't real life.

I think we need to travel outside our silo more. The discussion here seems very insular sometimes. I think a lot of the research and stats presented on here, when posted dispassionately in more neutral forums, may start sparking the sorts of debates that ought to be happening. I think standing up for others when they start getting shot down defending men's rights would be good too. I'm as guilty of staying quiet as anyone, but I'm trying to pick the right moments.

I really appreciate the work you put into these; they're very good. My honest opinion about this one is that losing the swearing on slide 6 (even though it is censored!) would make this acceptable to a wider audience. On that subject, how do you envisage these slides being shared. Is that just by sharing the posts on Reddit, or do you distribute them in other ways?
