Advice please. Here's the situation, 2 years separated, we both want to divorce but she won't agree on a settlement and mediation has failed and won't go ahead. The marital home belongs to her, when I moved in I took over the finances and paid her mortgage, all bills and home improvements for 3 years. I did not get a pre-nuptial because I was a trusting sort and loved her completely. My solicitor told me that the rise in value of the house for the period I was paying is considered a 'marital asset' and so should be divided and that she can't see a reason there should be no settlement. Her 'logic' is that the home-maker's contribution to the marriage is equal to the bread-winner's and so we are 'quits' and I therefore get nothing! I've pointed out that it is irrational and unfair and she has come back with 'take it up with your solicitor'. I'm disabled and have very little energy. The only thing I've thought of that doesn't just roll over and die is to refuse to sign any financial order where I get nothing. Is there anything else I could do?
