No one young cares about personality because they've experienced very little of it, much less created one of their own. They haven't entered the processing of information phase of their lives, they're still in the information absorption phase. Personality is about "drama" and not even whether you do or don't want it in your life.

So looks are the only thing one has to go on and biological signals of fertility and outward good genetics.

Later in life people start thinking more about personality. One time you wake up to your partner giving you a back rub, or giving you the appropriate freedom vs. jealousy, or being laid back, or not being insane and you realize what inner traits you care about.

You also start understanding inner genetics. You realize how deadly it is to partner with people with mental disorders and medical disorders. There is nothing more soul sucking that become a "provider" for crazy people. The crazy redhead may have been fun for a weekend fuck fest, but you don't want to come in and find your wife cutting her thighs with razor blades because she couldn't make coffee that day. Or has a family history of medical problems. Or is depressed 99% of the time. Or is a hoarder. Or never told you they have coprophilia and hid that from you.

But when you're younger? Fuck that, there's holes to pump and cocks to ride. It's all about looks, status, money, all of which gets better or worse over time and has very little predictability.
