For those of you that don't know. When you link to website, it boosts their ranking on search engines, making them more money via more traffic due to more visibility.

This is an aspect of "search engine optimization", specifically, how google uses links from other pages or websites to apply a ranking to the website/pages being linked too.

In simple terms. When you link to a website, from another website, google uses this as a "vote of usefulness/quality/or relevancy. (This also includes interlinking from a page on that same site, but, that is slightly different in how google views it.)

Linking to a website, helps google figure out what it is about. Making it more confident of that sites and pages utility to a search phrase typed into its search engine. Usually helping to boost its ranking for related search terms. It also causes google to assume that site may be of usefulness, or quality. Usually boosting it in both general and specific search queries on google.

The better ranked the page and site that is linking to another page or and site, the more powerful this link is. (Reddit would be a powerful link).

Therefore, you may want to consider avoiding linking to "enemy" propaganda sites. Such as the guardian, daily-beast, huff-post, and so on and so forth.

One way you can avoid doing this is to upload the page you wish to share on such sites to an archive, and then share the archive page instead. You can look up how to do that via a search engine and you should find a method to do this.

Also, remember, just going to those sites yourself, can generate money for them, even if you do not click on an ad. Some of those ads may be paid via how many views it gets. Also, even if you use ad block, having better traffic metrics may boost their payout in terms of making advertisers think their website may be worth more due to having good traffic, so just going to their site alone could boost their payout via algorithmic or negotiated payout factors as more traffic is more enticing.
