Best thing is don't answer the door. I found that everytime someone knocks on my door it is one of the following:

1) Someone trying to sell me shit 2) Someone who want to rob me 3) Someone trying to sell me shit

Word of advice, if someone knocks on your door, and you aren't expecting someone and you don't know who they are, don't answer. Nothing good will result from answering the door.

Upsetting story. It's good of you to care enough for another human being that you'd go out and try to help her, but I do have to ask the obvious question: would you have gone so far to help if it wasn't a young woman? Perhaps you would, I don't know.

She could claim you raped her or something. No fucking way would I get involved. Call the cops and go back to bed. I wouldn't have even opened the door, just use the peephole to see if it's someone you know. Even if it was a neighbor female, I wouldn't answer, they can call 911 for help or emergency.
