My only issue with this is that this sort of tarnishes your legacy. If people look back on the things you said and did, they wont see you having fought for what you believe in.

Despite the meme that "stuff on the internets is out there 'foreva'!" ALL online stuff -- 100% of it; Fakebook, SnapCunt, InstaCrap, Twatter, NvrReddit, Blagger, -- will inevitably, eventually go "poof" and disappear.

Don't believe me? Does anybody still have archives of their Compuserve, AOL, or Geocities era stuff? Nope.

How about your Google+ stuff? Wait... pretty much no one actually used Google+; so not the best example, but still.

So here's another one: when's the last time you looked at anyone's "MySpace" page? Anyone... anyone... Bueller??

It's simply a matter of time & trends.

Add on that the era of the "open internet" -- especially accessible via "search engine" -- is rapidly closing, and will soon end in one way or another... we're already transitioning to the censored/filtered internet... and eventually, post implosion of the "faux money" funded "Big Data/Big Tech" bullshit... well those companies will go belly up, and all of their datasets & data centers will be seen as archaic, obsolete, not worth the expense of maintaining. Oh some stuff may survive, somewhere, but it will likely be so inaccessible that it may as well no longer exist.

Again don't believe me? Well not all that long ago, people would never have believed that a company like GM could go bankrupt, much less would they abandon/ditch longstanding "major brands" like Oldsmobile, & Pontiac; or that an entity like "Rolls Royce" would someday be a wholly owned subsidiary of (for fucks sake) "Volkswagen" and then a badge/brand of "BMW."

The proverbial "Wheel" never stops turning, and the world even just 20 years from now, much less 50 or 100, will almost certainly not only look nothing like it does now, but be massively different than anyone at present imagines it will.

For many, it's best to keep personal views separate from corporate/professional life. At work, toe the company line, on personal time tell 'em to kiss off. The company/boss will use stuff they find out about your private personal life to fuck you over.

I guess my question is why do you care about leaving a legacy. Why do you care about leaving a footprint on the internet when that stuff dissappears under all the nonsense that's dumped onto it everyday. Sure maybe you leave some embarrassing thing on your Twitter you may get laughed at but after a little while no one cares and moves onto the next thing unless you keep bringing attention to yourself. I guess I take my stance close to what Metokur does. He enjoys his anonymity and isn't going out there trying to show himself because it's the internet a place to. Dump your shit vent and be an asshole if you wish and once you're done you can turn the computer screen off and no one is the wiser.

I've never cared about legacy myself, and do things anonymously, I don't know anyone from 500 years ago, so I doubt my non-accomplishments in life will be remembered.

However, if I did care about being remembered in the future, I would do only positive things under my "real" name and do bad things under my "anonymous" name.

I'd do it following this algorithm.

I mean, unless you intend to be a great leader or general or invent zero point energy or invent FTL travel, one won't be remembered. You have to do something astronomical for your own grandchildren to remember you much after you died, and you had better have been elected to something pretty high up to even survive great grandfather level.

Luckily, I don't have kids, so I'll disappear like some dust, unless some jackass printed out one of my rantings or saved a video and as they die, screaming and shitting themselves, their kids go through his laptop, find all his porn, and wonder, 'why the fuck did Uncle Topher print out some faggot's response essay to a vice.com article on feminist painting with menstrual blood?'
