Honestly.... and I say this as a very conservative person who values hard work, and can't stand incompetence and laziness...

This was to be expected to happen at the first opportunity to scapegoat a global crisis as the whole, "OMG we can't work!" routine, when there are so many industries here in the US that operate just barely above 3rd world conditions.

When a massive company turns into the kind of place people can't stand to work at, but have no choice because they're the only employer for miles that isn't a fast food joint... People start to despise them.

When you get that big, and run such a monopoly on employment opportunities in an area... It becomes obvious that they can treat their employees however they want.

People become human machines who are worth less than the air they're breathing to those companies. It gets to the point they will not allow or offer anything that benefits the employees that isn't forced by law.

Then, those same companies will put small businesses and startups out of business, because they don't want ANY competition, for profit OR workers.

When it gets like that, they can basically tell you that you will get down on your knees and lick their boots, and you will thank them for it... because if you don't, you won't have a job, and they'll have 30 desperate people lined up to replace you by the end of the day.

What makes this worse, and I can personally confirm this is the acknowledged culture in those circles: these companies hire literal psychopaths to populate their middle and upper management.

Those psychopaths act like the company is THEIR personal playground, where they get to act out all sorts of fucked up control freak bullshit with not only complete and total immunity, but anyone who speaks against it is severely punished, fired, and even blacklisted in the industry.

So you end up with a bunch of sycophant yes men with "authority" to be a piece of shit human being to people...on top of that company paying garbage, with little to no benefits, and most of the time requiring 6 day weeks permanently....

Oh, and if you get sick? You better go to the ER and get a $5k bill to prove you were sick, because they'll fire you.

Not because it effects them, but again because those places are so large and disconnected from the people, that the ones in leadership get to enact power plays, to feel like they're somehow important.

Again -I realize that hard work and not being lazy is a virtue. That isn't in dispute here. People should work to support themselves, and should realize work is work...

But when THESE situations arise? When that kind of employer sucks up all of the economy in an area... They really and truly do treat people like actual horse shit.

Those kinds of places don't even have real leadership, either. They just have a merry band of narcissistic psychopaths who have found their calling in life, who were given a title and a pen, and let out to make people miserable.

I have worked in that kind of environment, I know first hand what it's like. I was a foreman for a very short while in a steel industry factory, and saw exactly what the culture was like.

Then I got a real job, with real leadership, where its a non-issue.

So yea, it's no wonder people are abusing this pandemic/quarantine thing for time off.

If we didn't have massive amounts of shit businesses, who are trying to keep their bottom line as cheap as humanly possible so they can compete with global economies and the likes of FUCKING CHINA, maybe people wouldn't be so miserable they finally took a "vacation" for the first time in 8 years, because there was no way the company could refuse.

Yeah, several of my clients are having problems with people calling in saying they are afraid to work because of the virus. We're not quarantined or locked down, either.

In my situation, I'm not working but that's because I got laid off through no fault of my own. I work oilfield, so a combo of the virus and the Saudis dumping oil on the market did us in. And pretty much life is starting to grind to a halt. Lucky for me I got a sizable emergency fund plus I'm still owed a check and I'm claiming unemployment. Bear in mind I am 36 and this is the first time I'm claiming. It sucks but at least I'm safe and hopefully this passes and life can get back to normal.

why should they work if government will give them money for free.

Government will print money and prices will skyrocket.If you sell a product you will not sell for paper.You will ask for it more and more paper to recuperate some value.

Some people buy toilet paper,some people buy toilet paper factories.
