This was a response to another’s question. Figured someone here who is playing the corporate game might be able to benefit. Use any tactics outlined herein at your own risk.

I was in this EXACT situation. I'll explain what I did and perhaps it can guide you.

I worked for a company that was modernizing a neighboring states' welfare program. Privatization. And I was the guy they hired to manage the call center. My job quickly turned into WAY more than that.

My boss ended up getting fired. I found myself with a new manager and we clashed hard.

They cut my job into two jobs (which it was) and I got the "Project Management" side of it. I also got put under a female manager. There were two major female managers above me, who were below the director, and they hated each other. I'll call the second one I ended up with, "Plastic", because she had quite a bit of it. She was in her upper 40's and was single, but full force StrongIndependentWommun.

When I started that job, it was right about the time of the bank confiscation that started our current great depression which some called a crash of the housing market, but it's much bigger than that. And I saw it unfolding. So I sat down and tried to figure out how to protect my job.

1 - I could do a good job.

2 - I could make myself so indispensable they would have a hard time doing without me.

3 - I could gather enough information that if I were fired, I could make a fucking mess out of a very political project.

4 - I could work myself a bit of an "insurance plan".
