Leaves fallen on the ground do serve a valuable purpose for trees . They serve to cover the soil from over-exposure to the sun, rain, wind and snow and they serve to feed/help the ants, worms, fungi, shrubs and all the other small living things who cooperate in one way or another with the tree from whom the leaves came from
