The crippling of language is a powerful way to stifle dissent. In Orwell's 1984, the revisions of the English language dubbed 'newspeak' removed a great many words from English in order to remove ambiguity and 'redundancy'. For example, why even have a word for 'bad' when you can just reverse the word 'good' into 'ungood'? Seems harmless?

Consider this for a thought experiment: Imagine your career is as a mathematician. Now imagine there's no word for what you do - remove the word 'mathematics' from your vocabulary. How do you explain your job? You are one who calculates numbers, something like that, right? Cool, now remove the word 'numbers'. Then remove the word 'calculate'. It gets harder and harder to explain things. It's a good lesson on the importance of language and it's relation to the intelligence and nuance of a society.

That said, this article is rambling bullshit. Who the fuck cares if hurricanes are named after women? So are battleships and yachts and songs, cars, houses, pets, pests, gods and celestial bodies, for fuck's sake. Get on with your life.

Language reflects and reinforces social norms; ungendering language is an important part of solving sexism. And there has been some progress. As you might expect, much of this emanates from Sweden.

Welfare colonists are ghettoizing Sweden one block at a time and Feminists are worried about snow-plowing sidewalks because "women use sidewalks more than men" and "MUH PRONOUNS."

Western Europe really does deserve to follow the Roman Empire into the dustbin of history. They would rather fiddle while civilization burns around their heads.
