The older I get the less humans I want around me. From day to day I talk to almost no one. Im not upset about it.... I find that the state of women is just a symptom of society at large. All of the fucking paradigm is nuts to me so I stay quiet and wait.

I have a few. I don't see them every week. More like every couple months. That's more than enough. People at my work try to "make friends" all the time but I'm sick enough of seeing their faces and listening to their jokes all day so no thanks. I keep a low profile and will keep contact for networking, that's it.

I've got two friends that I consider brothers. That's it. Everyone else is just an acquaintance and I tend to keep people at arm's length. In terms of women, they will always be at arm's length.

Depends on how you define "friend"...

And I don't just mean discounting the banal MySpace/FakeBook "friend" thing...

-- I mean simply that there are various levels/degrees of "friendships" -- and that most of your friends (real life ones) will sort of "wander" up/down & around those various levels & degrees across time & place -- and likewise your own side of the friendship will vary as well...

And in my experience -- outside of circumstances & "shared experiences" that are imposed upon you (by forces beyond your control*) in a sort of equal fashion -- once you reach full independent adulthood, very rarely will the two sides really be "in synch" with each other -- in no small par because your friends too will be "independent" and living their own lives, etc.

* To wit: your "School buddies" or "Army buddies" etc -- you may "choose" (to a certain extent) which of he guys from the group are your "friends"; but your choice is limited/controlled by the fact that you really didn't get to choose the members of the overall group, NOR your own part in it (even if you voluntarily chose the school or to join a certain branch of the military, much of the rest: which dorm, or barracks, which unit or specific class sessions, etc; will be largely outside of your control, semi-randomly determined by others.

Friendships are far too often platforms for "vampirism" of one form or another-emotional, financial, psychological. Something for which I too was guilty of as well. This, perhaps, is too crystalline an outlook for many but I have, nevertheless, shed most of the friendships I was ever a part of. These days I require energy and focus and a "friend" is just too much to handle on top of the daily routine. There are good people out there but I can't help them. I need to help myself first and foremost. Two marriages destroyed the man I was(thankfully as it turns out) and now I only have time to nurture the man I am now and the man I am evolving into as I go.

“I never felt like I need friends”

Welcome to the independence many wish they can get one day. It seems unique and even worrying, but in the long run it’s not. The saddest thing in my early years - friends I loved came and went. Thankfully, It made me more independent and actually more sociable when I network - I focused on myself and made myself the prize - instead of conforming to group think in a pack of friends.

Necessary? No. Can I live without them? Yes. I am thankful that I have a few but great friends. We have similar hobbies and life views. It's always nice when we get together and play sports,hit the gym and grab a drink and talk about 1000 different things. Ive lost alot of friends through the years just because of my views in marriage and relationshits so the few that I've stayed friends with i do appreaciate them and also help them when and If I can. I've been helped many times by them too on thinks like car repairs,moving etc. I think all in all is great to have some good and few friends but it's rare.
