Sucks shit. I'm getting ready to leave in a month. It could be a great place to live if you're independently wealthy and/or have a job where you can control your hours, otherwise the work culture sucks and the women for the most part suck.

Those hikikomori guys are probably so rampant here because there's really no other choice other than be a total wage cuck working 16 hours a day and/or a literal slave to a woman.

I don't think foreign dudes fair any better other than those that, like I said, are independently rich or have gravy jobs.

At the end of the day, the fuckhole you know is better than the fuckhole you don't. At least back in Canada I might be able to get a decent paying job. I was making less here than I would in fast food back home lol, place is a joke really outside of tourism and safety.

Yeah based on postings alone I'd say you're right about startups at least. Saw some okay positions advertised. But still, like most jobs these days and especially as a foreigner in Japan, competition is tight. Anything advertised at over 300,000 yen a month, you're going to get every white boi and their brother applying, because English teachers are lucky to make between 250,000 and 300,000 these days. I've seen IT positions advertising 300,000 a month asking for Japanese language skills and several years experience.

Basically Japan has to be worthwhile enough for you to be educated/experienced enough to have a good career going back home, but then decide to trade it for an entry level position in Japan.

As for living expenses, it's true that that money probably does go a bit farther overall than in most places in the States or Canada. But, it's still nothing to write home about.
