Masculinity was always broader than femininity. Men always took more risks, engaged in more fantasy, had more diverse interests, and generally lived more interesting lives than women. This has always been so, regardless of whether we are looking at Roman Empire, Victorian England, modern Sweden, Afghanistan under Taliban, or Amazonian tribes.

If anyone wants to put men into molds, it's women themselves.
