"Fertility rates have hit an all-time low and teen birth rates are on the decline, according to a new report from the CDC.

Using data from the National Vital Statistics System, the CDC report released Wednesday found that after a 2% decline in the overall fertility rate between 2017 and 2018, numbers have hit an “all-time low” in the U.S.

ADVERTISEMENT Overall fertility fell to 59.1 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44, according to the CDC report. In non-Hispanic white and non-Hispanic black women, fertility rates dropped 2% in 2018, while there was a 3% decline in rates for Hispanic women.

Teen child birth rates also “declined to record lows,” according to the CDC. Teen birth rates for those ages 15 to 19 declined 7% from 2017 to 2018, falling from 18.8 per 1,000 to 17.4 per 1,000. The report found that teen births in non-Hispanic black teenagers fell 4% in 2018, and 8% in non-Hispanic white and Hispanic teenagers.

There was an increase in the number of babies that were delivered less than full-term, or under 39 weeks, the report said. And preterm babies — those born before 37 weeks of gestation — accounted for 10.02% of births in 2018, up from 9.93% in 2017. Early-term births — those born between 37 and 38 weeks of pregnancy — also increased from 26% in 2017 to 26.53% in 2018.

The report also found there was an increase in vaginal births after mothers previously had a Caesarean section. Vaginal births after C-sections increased from 12.8% in 2017 to 13.3% in 2018, the report said."
