If hypergamy means women always look to marry up, it follows that a smart woman with resources will have a very limited dating pool indeed. Add to this women hitting the wall just as their careers are exploding (35-40), and you have a problem: wealthy, smart, not-as-pretty women looking for highly wealthy, smart, handsome men. It is unlikely a high status man would choose an older woman over a younger woman, all things being equal.

This is why women should get married at 18, when they think a 30 year old with a good job is a catch.
