Also. For background info, I'll pull from this "explainer" website's "Beginner’s Guide to Shared Centimorgans" page. Several key points:

The total amount of centimorgans is approximately 6800.

[generally speaking] half from each parent, then they should share about 3400 cMs with each parent

While the article DOESN'T really go the next step, it should be obvious that in any "clean" family (non-incestuous/no cuckolding, etc) one would share about 1/2 of the parental total -- i.e. 1/2 of the 3400 cMs = 1700 cMs -- with any grandparent.*

And obviously the 1/2 division thing -- absent any familial lineage intermarriage (cousins marrying cousins, other more "incestuous" stuff) -- continues to apply to subsequent generations. That is a great-grandparent shares about 1/2 of the grandparent total (1/2 of 1700 cMS = ~850 cMs) with any given great-grandchild.

So where am I going with this?

You know all the BS about "maintaining your genetic legacy" as a rationale for SHAMING you into getting married and having kids...

Well, unless you are yourself the "only child" of parents who themselves were the "only child" of grandparents (or at least the "only child TO have a child" or only one to survive long enough to reproduce) who were in turn the "only child" of their parents (or again the only one to reproduce)... then the various genetic elements that make up YOU are not exactly going to be coming to a "dead end." The offspring of the various siblings/cousins etc will continue to spread those genetic components (intermixed with others, as indeed YOURS would be as well) down into future generation(s).

Moreover you are hardly the one that is somehow SOLELY to blame if that (the above series of "only children" having JUST one child) is true. It isn't exclusively YOUR FAULT if your genetic line (a rather dubious abstract construct) comes to a "dead end."

No... it takes MULTIPLE GENERATIONS of people (siblings of parents/grandparents) NOT having kids (and/or having only ONE kid, or only one kid that themselves had a kid, etc)... to create that kind of scenario where YOU are the "last of the line." IOW again... it isn't your fault.

If your parents wanted LOTS of grandchildren... then THEY should have had LOTS (i.e. 3 or more) of children... not just one or two. (And the same applies to THEIR parents... if you're the ONLY grandchild, THAT isn't your fault.)

Laying ALL of the burden on you is akin to multiple generations living in a house -- but FAILING to repair or maintain it properly -- and telling YOU that YOU have to "salvage" it. Well seriously? You're not the one who let it become THAT dilapidated.

Also of note:

If you have siblings who have kids -- you're actually almost as closely related (~2,200+ cMs) with any of your nieces & nephews as they are with their own FULL-siblings (~2,600 cMs)-- and you're MORE closely related to them (share more genes) than they are to/share with any of their HALF-siblings (~1,700 cMs).

Moreover...

Beyond mere genetics (which DO have "random" expression & outplay)... YOUR "legacy," such as it may be -- and remember your "genetics" may be what you're made of, but they aren't really "yours" in that you weren't involved in their selection or combination/collection -- is NOT simply "genetic"...

Your "legacy" is as much or more* what you have LEARNED, your skills, your knowledge, your "worldview"* and etc. While these too are not WHOLLY yours (most of what you know/believe/value came from others as well), you did at least have SOME role (minor to major) in their selection, collection, combination & expression.

And passing THOSE on to others -- genetically related or not -- is JUST as likely to have an influence (possibly far greater influence**) than any "genetic" legacy you might pass on.

And finally...

One of the aspects that is usually a "concern" of those with no surviving offspring, is "When I die, who will inherit all my stuff?"

I'm going to say here something MOST people don't even consider -- and that is that being a "childless" man should perhaps be seen as a BLESSING in this regard, rather than some "curse."

People with children seldom have any CHOICE -- their spouse and/or genetic offspring (good seed or BAD seed) basically WILL inherit most if not all (Depending on the country/law, it's often difficult or impossible to ENTIRELY "disinherit" one's children or spouse). Thus the all too common lament of parents, similar to that of Solomon in Ecclesiastes chapter 2:18-19+

Only the childless MGTOW guy can fully & freely CHOOSE. He can SELECT one or more "heirs" who are younger (possibly MUCH younger) -- based on whether the MGTOW man himself believes they are showing themselves to be "wise" or "foolish" -- it's not left to the random "chance" of genetics.

I would like to suggest that is perhaps an even MORE powerful & influential way to pass on a "legacy": akin to Julius and Octavian (aka Augustus).

Caesar had no living legitimate children under Roman law, and so had adopted Octavius, his grand-nephew, making him his primary heir. Source

* Note: The site gives a VAGUE range of 575 to 3900 (and is likewise "vague" with ranges for great-granparents, etc). But it doesn't clearly explain how one could be MORE related to a grandparent (3900 cMs) than to a direct parent (3400 cMs). The answer is apparently left as a "mental exercise for the reader" (i.e. to have a HIGHER shared total, said grandparent MUST somehow or another be genetically related to BOTH the kids' parents... IOW the kids parents are themselves genetically akin -- cousins or perhaps even more closely related.)

** My favorite example is Nicolaus Copernicus -- a man who never married, never had any children (at least that anyone knows about), and who apparently never even seriously tried to -- nevertheless his "life's work" (his little side hobby); which was only published when he was on his deathbed... eventually came to "rule the world" and essentially everyone alive today is a "Copernican" -- and to a far GREATER degree than anyone alive today would (or could) be, even if they WERE somehow a descendant of his "genetic" line.

Nor is Copernicus all THAT unique: The same of course is true of many OTHER men who never had children: from Socrates to Plato to Aristotle... all the way to Nikola Tesla.
