You'll need 4 things for an own business

1 a product to sell

2 a market demand for said product

3 you must believe in the product and yourself

4 luck

If any of these 4 is missing it'll go south. The "hardest" part is beginning an own business. My advice: don't overthink what can go wrong and do listen to advice but make your own call. Most people want to see you fail and will bring up all kinds of "very good" arguments why your idea will not work. Best advisors are your worst enemies. They'll be so blunt in order to hurt you they'll point out the best flaws in your plan. Also inform yourself about laws, taxes, year accounts a.s.o. Also regarding advice: ask that fragmented and compartmentalized. Don't lay out your full plan. Because others might be running of with it. Especially if you have a Blue Ocean plan. (Blue Ocean means: the product isn't there and the market doesn't know about it. Red Ocean is the opposite: f.e. opening a Mc Donald's franchise).

In other words: prepare yourself but make the leap of faith otherwise you'll be planning until your grave.

When started: don't fear failure. I can assure you: you will fail with things. But remember: what doesn't "kill" you makes you stronger. Furthermore: listen to your market. What are the demands?? Where is the profit? Be prepared to change to adapt to the market. My, now sadly diseased, Old Man said: it doesn't matter what you sell if it sells. If you don't sell anything it's getting pretty tedious quickly.

Another word of advice; turnover =/= profit! First comes the Tax, then your landlord, electricity and other costs. Only then it's your turn. Also build up a profit of your net income and don't spend it all. Always be prepared for difficult times. Make sure you'll build up a 6 months at minimum safety net.

I'd also strongly recommend you to think very, very carefully about hiring staff. People are liabilities. Running your 1 man's company is nothing to be ashamed of. OC: outsource accountancy or perhaps a telephone front watch f.e. But hiring staff I strongly recommend against. Same goes business partners. Do it alone or don't do it at all.

For healthy economics my rule of thumb: fuck the mass, pick the cash. People want to be "cheated upon" Make as much cash as you can out of your product. look at the iPhone f.e. I think those things have a margin of 200% to 500%. People are psychotic enough to lay down that high amount of money for a cell phone which breaks if you stare at it too hard.

Also know when to quit. Of course: push on in your opening phase and don't give up when things aren't running smoothly from T=0. But don't keep pushing forever. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. And it means you're missing 1 or more of the 4 said requirements.

dont give yourself a retirement deadline...you might love what you do and work till the day you die....
focus on starting a business first and you can think about retirement after...

Be your own mentor , like MIYAMOTO MUSASHI (google him). If you are young, join a gym, workout,learn martial arts (for your own PHYSICAL FITNESS), if you have a college degree, serve for 3 years in the military and then join a PMC.

Or you could open your own cyber warfare team.
