I have an acquaintance who is looking for a job. So after dicking around at a few job options, she finally decided to go after a trade with a union she was familiar with.

Now this is a job she's done before, for years. She has an impressive resume that applies to this trade, it isn't exactly the same, and wasn't union, but is essentially the same thing from a what the job is. Only her resume is much more impressive.

So she goes down to the union local, and talks to the woman there that says, "Well based on your experience we can list you as a journeyman". Which is such sexist language! Journeyperson you racist.

So she says, "No, I'd rather start as an apprentice." The union woman is really trying to convince her to list as journeyman, which naturally increases pay, but no, she insists on apprentice.

So she'll be starting as an apprentice, at lower money, even though the organization was literally telling her to start at a higher level. But no, she lacked confidence or who knows what. This is the kind of job that is not technical, it's something anyone can do and walk in and there's really nothing to "learn". It's all, "how long have you been doing it".

She entirely set up her own trip wire, tripped on it, and has to start lower. Also, she has to move out of where she is at the end of the year and start paying rent somewhere, and this type of a job is an "on demand" type of job, not a 40 hour work week. You cannot guarantee a monthly income, it's completely gig dependent.
