Happy Friday Boys
I have a little issue I'm having to repeatedly deal with.
I stay in the SF Bay, and specifically we're I live there is a huge issue with street parking. If any of you have ever been here, or lived here, I'm sure you know. It more or less feels as if you are being punished for owning a vehicle.
Long story short, I do not have dedicated parking. And, I live in an area that appears to be overcrowded, as there is never any parking available to you on the street within about a 3-4 block radius unless you get home before 4pm. It is to the point that you see a lot of people doubling up spaces in their garage/driveway or on the sidewalk directly in front of their houses.
With that being said, I do contract work. I arrive home at random times of the day, everyday. Most times it is after that 4pm window. My landlord does not allow me to park in the driveway, as they monopolize it themselves, nor do they let me park on the sidewalk in front of the property.
Long story short, I do not think it reasonable to have to park and walk a fucking mile+ out everyday just to park and get home. So, what I have done as a makeshift solution is speak with the owners of a corner store that is two houses over, and I have gotten clearance from them to park on the side of their building (on the sidewalk) if I need to. This is usually between 8pm-8am, I try to park late, and leave early.
Now, with that being said, and hopefully after I've painted this picture well enough, over the course of staying here for a year and a half I have still ,even with that effort, have likely amassed enough parking tickets to match a decent percentage of what I pay in rent for the entire year.
The parking system here is extremely similar to a racket. And it seems as if I am almost being extorted. I have been through 4 cars in the time of me living here (they are work cars, I cycle them frequently for reasons that I don't want to take time and space to explain). The first car that I had cycled, I had paid about $2k in parking fees. The 2nd and 3rd cars, I received parking tickets of a total that I don't recall. I did not pay on either, but I believe the total for both was probably less than the first as I had both for a much shorter time. In the time that I've had the fourth car, since December of 18', I have been issued 11 tickets (the latest being this morning at 3am). And of the 11, only 1 was from my own negligence not remembering street sweeping.
Every other ticket was issued with all the other etc. reasons, such as "blocking a wheelchair exit" on a sidewalk with my bumper being less than a 1/4 over, or parking on a sidewalk etc. Even though, again, you see countless people parking on the sidewalk in the area because they are forced to.
For the current car, the total in tickets is sitting at $2.5k. Im all about starving the system. I don't not wish to support it in anyway. They are essentially running a ticket racket, and extorting me for money, to then fund themselves to continue to extort me. I'm not about to fucking feed you bottom feeding meter-maids, or the state, to continue to dole out more ticket extortions. Fuck yourselves.
I do not plan on registering or renewing this car, and plan on putting another 10-20k miles on it(this can be done sooner than later with the work I do) before cycling to another vehicle. And I also plan on moving from this location next month, so I hopefully won't be dealing with this BS any longer.
My advice I'm looking for from you guys, after explaining that whole situation, is as to the repercussions of not paying the system. I did not want to post this in any other sub because I don't want bootlickers, or smart mouthed asshats harping the same beehive answers. With everything considered, should I actually work out some sort of deal with a judge and maybe pay a reduced fine to have them all released, or should I keep my middle finger up and let them starve?
On principle, I would hate the fact that I would be paying them to then continue to do these same disgusting tactics for funding. That's where my gripe is.
Apologies for the long text, but I don't believe I could've asked the question without prefacing it with the situational info.
