Dopamine is an essential neurochemical of life. It plays a major role on how you feel, think and act. As a result of this, damage to a balanced dopamine system will mess with your whole life. One of these toxic forms of dopamine comes in Social Media. Now it would be hypocritical for me to criticize one's use of social media for validation when I do so myself, in fact, I would say about 95% of people on social media do it for the validation whether it be conscious or not. However, it is fair to say I am not consumed in it the same way young girls and women have become nor is there a trap set up for me the same way there is for girls. With every like, comment or dm a girl receives she becomes more accustomed to a certain amount of validation. The way this releases to dopamine is that each of these things has been scientifically proven to release a short spike of dopamine in the brain which makes the person feel good. The problem here becomes desensitization. Dopamine shares characteristics with a drug in that with increasing interaction the body starts to become desensitized and the baseline level for the drug affecting you goes higher up. Girls don’t do themselves any favors by also increasing their expectations consciously to unrealistic levels by opening themselves up to this praise. The fact of the matter is that we haven't evolved as humans for their to be a place for social media in our daily physical existences. You can’t go up to someone walking on the street and press a like button on them, granted women do receive compliments or catcalls whichever way you want to look at it in day to day life, but that number is minuscule compared to someone getting upwards of 20,000 likes on a photo. No one has ever gotten 20,000 people within an hour come up to say how beautiful someone is to validate them. No, one, ever. So now their partners whose validations would have been enough had they never stepped into the realm of social media doesn’t produce enough of a dopamine response because their baseline to achieve stimulation has gone up so high. Where in their regular life they may have been at a 6 on a happiness scale without social media, they are now at a 4 and can only get that 6 through likes, keep In mind that Woodmore use their Baseline for achieving happiness goes up higher so you're from now what was a foreign day today happiness can turn into what two and the 20,000 likes they got them to a 6 can only get them to a 4 they now need 40000 likes and so on and so forth.
