Hello MGTOW.

We talk about lifting, making money, hobbies (gardening, snorkeling, scuba diving, music, etc) and other stuff. But what about character? So today I decided to post about humility.

Humility has been recognized as a virtue since the earliest times. The Bible talks about it - even the Old Testament. Even the Hindu scriptures said to predate the Bible by 2000 years talk about it. Here I will post my take on humility. Feel free to add your own thoughts - but only on humility. If you want to talk about another virtue - submit another text post!

In my opinion, humility is recognizing the following 2 facts :

  • (1) You will never be so learned that you have nothing left to learn.

  • (2) You will never come across any body (human, plant or animal) so stupid that they have nothing to teach you.

Once you have recognized these 2 facts, everyone is in a position to teach you and hence you treat everyone with respect. Here respect does NOT mean the respect talked about by mafiosi but genuine respect.

Once Lord Bertrand Russell was asked What do you know? He replied that the only thing he knew was that he didn't know anything. This is the same man who wrote Principles of Mathematics, was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature and also gave the idea of Russell's teapot (pretty useful if you find yourself debating feminists who shift the burden of proof on to you). Similarly, the physicist Leo Szilard once told a biologist colleague to “assume infinite intelligence and zero prior knowledge” when explaining to him.

The biggest problem I have in being humble is that I sometimes forget the 2 facts mentioned above. What do you think of humility? What ideas do you have with regard to improving this quality in yourself? Share all your ideas and thoughts on humility.

Bye.
