Probably when his GF cheated on him, someone told him the same thing, most likely a woman.

They always shift blame back on you. You become a victim if you play the game. Guy gets hit by a frying pan, he almost has a concussion, he gets advice from a domestic helper hotline. Odds are they will ask, did you hit her? If answer is no, what did you do to provoke her?
