I keep a diary, and was writing something in it this morning I really liked. I have recently split up with a longtime, serious girlfriend because, of course, she lied and cheated. I'm in the process of changing my life from one that's included a woman (which has been the case for the last twenty years) to one that includes just me.

Subconsciously, this is somewhat scary. I wake up in the middle of the night, grappling with loneliness, solitude, anxiety. I'm all alone. What if something happens? What if I need help? Nobody out there cares what happens to me.

But on the other hand, yesterday, because there was nobody out there competing for my attention and energy, I got a fantastic amount done. I felt a real power surge. And that surge is a glimpse of what's going to carry me through, what's going to be the engine of a new, post-woman, GYOW life, forever. And in describing this, I wrote:

"I'm building my life around building my life."

I like that.
