I did something I probably shouldn’t have done. I received a letter from the court system, the envelope was already open so not really thinking and assuming it was a summons for jury duty or something I took it out of the envelope and read it. Turns out it was actually addressed to a former occupant of the property and pertained to a divorce this guy had which was finalized in 1998.

Per the terms of the divorce the guy’s ex wife was entitled to half the value of his retirement account at the time of their separation (not divorce). What she was instead trying to do was help herself to half of the ENTIRE AMOUNT including his contributions to the account which had been made during the 22 years SINCE their divorce. I don’t know how this could even get to the point where this guy now had to hire lawyers and start defending himself against someone in a matter that was supposed to have been settled decades ago but here he was. Hopefully when this gets in front of a judge he will slap her down hard and award damages to the guy for the costs associated as well as the emotional pain and suffering inflicted in him ty a cash grab perpetrated by a woman he thought he had washed his hands of in the last century.
