Because marriage is a form of control. Men can't get on the streets and start a revolution when they have to go out and feed their special little snowflake and spoiled, whiny brats, because even though they are toxic to him, a man feels a sense of duty and his honor is on the line.

Society is scared of single men, because they have nothing to lose. And when you have nothing to lose, you have everything to gain. And that is scary, my friend.

They want men to get married because it enables the wife's addiction to consumerism. Women make up something crazy like 85% of all consumer spending, which wouldn't be possible if not for their tapping into men's wallets via marriage.

A man is, almost by definition, transgressing. The carrier of "Hell, fuck, NO !". Marriage is the taming of a man. Once locked in the family circle, he becomes a provider, a cog in the machine, a consumer. No more threat.

Media is a megaphone for govt control. Govt needs serfs to shut up and produce-consume-repeat. None of that happens when the serfs start thinking that they don't need to be doing all that shit. Media gets its marching orders to bring the shame down on the unruly independents.

Marriage is desirable, from a societal perspective, because the people participating in it are more predictable.

For those of you following along at home, this implies a deprivation of freedom over their single counterparts, both from laws and societies expectations. In all honesty, this is usually a good thing as our economy is predicated on a stable drive to produce more. It even benefits us, though we refuse to directly participate in the game.

It doesn't really relate to who had more power though, and really; what does that even mean? Legally women have more rights than men do, wouldn't that imply that women have more power?
