Third day of drill before basic training and my sergeant jokingly mentions that he hopes i don't have a girlfriend after hearing what happened with my friend. We were watching the Iran tension unfolding on tv a couple days ago and i told my sergeant i didn't really give a shit if i got deployed, especially because i want to make a name for myself (in my career). Late last year someone i knew from grade school (one of my closest friends up until now) came back from non combat deployment and his wife who I've known from high school, tried to not only hit on me during that time but also ended up getting pregnant from another guy apparently a coworker at her law firm. A close family friend told my friend when he got back what his wife had informed her in private (the pregnancy). She tried defending the claim it was my friends but timelines didn't match up and apparently he confronted her earlier this week and she finally gave in and told the truth. My friend is not a completely truthful person but his wife is less believable, she has been disciplined at her firm for illegally forging information before. Please, to anyone serving or planning on doing this to boost your career, do not expect to stay in a meaningful relationship if you ever deploy. And if anything happens definitely do not expect sympathy of any kind from your fellow soldiers. Even though i tried counseling him he still believes he can fix this situation so i guess he'll never wake up. I've stopped associating with him at this point.
