-- (**) And now that I think about it, probably not even THAT... there's the root of the problem: if DADDY decided it was "ice cream cone" time, then DADDY should have picked THE flavor (same for everyone in the fam) ... Little "princess" then would have then either learned to accept it -- as the SPECIAL EVENT-TREAT-GIFT that it was -- or else if she wasn't "happy" with the flavor, to be utterly bereft while everyone else got to enjoy.

EDIT: By the way, back when I was dating (in the "before time"), I never made the (all too common & IMO foolishly stupid) mistake of asking a female where she wanted to go to eat, or what movie or other activity she wanted to do... In fact the decisions on that were all made in advance by me, and framed as such, to wit: "I'm going out tonight for a 'fish fry' [or 'steak' or 'Mongolian Barbeque'], and then to see [insert movie/whatever]... You interested in coming along?"

This removes ALL of the ambiguity and eliminates the petty argument bullshit... she has a SIMPLE and CLEAR choice: Yes or No are the only acceptable answers (and "maybe" = No).

-- Later learned that I pretty much had to do the same with GUY friends as well... the whole "what do you wanna do? I dunno, what do you want to do... I dunno..." is absurdly juvenile indecisive bullshit. Your plans don't HAVE to be "nailed down in stone" -- you CAN stay flexible, be "impulsive" -- but you damned well OUGHT to have SOME FRIGGING IDEA of what you want to do, what you want to eat, where you want to go, what you want to see... etc.

The answer to the invite /offer is then simple: it's "yes" or it's "no" -- or else they can counter-propose something ELSE, and then the choice of whether to go along is simple "yes/no" for you too. (i.e. "You wanna go grab a pizza?" -- "Nah, I don't want pizza again... I had pizza last night... and the night before, so I'm getting sick of pizza... How about a 'mission-trip' for Prime Rib & a couple of Brewski's at that new steakhouse/brewpub place outside of town instead?" -- "Sounds like a plan!")
