 It used to be that being able to financially support a child was a major factor in a parent's suitability to have the child. Then this was considered unfair, and so this got tossed out becaise it generally favored men. So to balance this the more suitable parent could keep the child and the other parent would have to continue to financially contribute to the child's upbringing. I think with some limits and responsibility, child support can be fair. Alongside that though, the other parent shohld have the right to be a part of the child's life if they are financially contributing.
