You're right. When simp exploded and everyone is using it I was like wait, I know that one. Funny how nobody (except for a few triggered fems) mind the origin of the word, the manosphere. Or at least the origin of the current usage of the word.

The first case of simp aka simpleton being used as an insult that I can think of is from a game called Eternal Champions (sega genesis 1993). In the game, Xavier uses "simpleton" to taunt his opponent. I know the word has been around much longer. But in terms of digital media, it's one of the very first few that I know of that use "simpleton" as an insult.
