A cottage, anywhere out in nature. Can't see or hear the neighbors, just listen to the birds sing. If need be I'd walk twenty miles to the nearest shop, get my provisions, and no one would see me for another two weeks.

That's the dream, but broke so chained to work and to the city.

For the money, you're probably good keeping some cash on you, keeping money in just about any bank. Most ATM's are all networked together anyways these days, worst you pay is a small fee to withdraw if the atm is out of network.

For money where you need 3 to 5 business days for liquidity, just open an Ameritrade account and have money in a good dividend yielding CEF. Sell when you need some cash, a few days later it hits your bank. Then you're good with an electronic transfer to wherever you want it to go.

As far as solitude, I wish. I'm in los Angeles where the job is. No such thing as solitude in LA. I'd live in a van, theres just no safe spot to park where you dont risk being hassled by vagrants, residents, or cops.

I've left my country, the house of my parents and my job in Argentina to live in Barcelona. On my own. I will never regret this.

Retirement isn't a good plan in my eyes. What the hell would you do? You might say "Anything I want to", but just for how long will you find that fulfilling? I'm pretty sure I want to work for as long as I live. I don't want to slave away at a job, but work for what I believe in. In my case, that could be improving great software or participating in projects that might not pay much but have goals aligned with my philosophy.

Your health should also vex you. You could live as you're pleased in your 20s or 30s even. But as you age you notice the burden of againg in every way. You'll need medical attention, if you're lucky from time to time only. But you never know how long will it last.
