Student loan debt is now in the trillions. Most students are women who rack up between $80-$100k each for what is usually a Bachelor's degree in nothing that will return the investment in any reasonable length of time. These women will usually have three primary options - continue their studies ie rack up more debt and work in academia, work in government, work a job they could have gotten without the degree. Whether that's starbucks or stripping is irrelevant.

Now, here's the kicker: if they rack up student loan debt and join academia, they will essentially be paid a salary in student loan money granted the next crop of useless women via the government - a cycle of debt, and remember they will have taken out more loans for more advanced degrees to work in academia in the first place. If they join government, they are paid directly by tax dollars. So if they make something like $40k/year + every benefit under the sun, even if they do pay back the loan, their fucking paychecks are tax funded loans anyway - for their whole careers. (Add in the tax deductions and child credits for single mommy government workers, and even more tax dollars are spent on them!) And if they work at starbucks, they'll never pay back the loans, they might not even tackle the interest.

How is any of this sustainable? Women are projected to be 75% of college undergrads and graduates within a few decades and almost none of them go into computer science, engineering, physics, or mathematics - not only are these the hardest majors in terms of complexity and average IQ of the student bodies, but they are the most important in our information economy and will be even more so moving into the future.
