I want to read more about the benefits of staying single and focusing on self development.

This can be about concrete achievements or general well-being and self-esteem. It doesn't have to be just naval gazing, think about how this stuff wouldn't have been possible if you were dragged into a relationship.

My contribution: my last relationship was about two and a half years ago, and while other opportunities have presented themselves I've let them go in favour of trying to achieve what I want out of life.

My focus and discipline are much better. I'm living for what I want rather than trying to impress anyone. There's so much less 'chatter' in my mind, and for the first time I really feel like I'm having fun in life.

Thus far, I've ...

  • Changed my job to a better paid and more prestigious one in medical research
  • Achieved a childhood dream of learning to ride and getting my own motorbike
  • Put myself on track to getting another Master's degree alongside my job
  • Travelled to meet friends living in other countries on short notice, just by letting my employer know I'll be away -- I've even got another job offer in a other country I may well take up one day

Most importantly I think I'm meeting new people of all different ages and backgrounds, and learning from them.

Tell me about how it's been for you guys.
