One of the most interesting things to me about being an older MGTOW is seeing examples of guys my age (I'm in my late fifties) who are doing the EXACT SAME stuff younger guys do, except with much more serious financial and personal consequences. I heard about another example last night. It's particularly striking because they often have sort of painted themselves into a financial or personal corner, and often don't really have any alternative.

A good friend of mine got fired from a pretty good job about a year ago. His wife (second --oops) basically is dependent on him. She's getting a graduate degree in something useless, has interesting hobbies and so on, but has never worked a real day in her life, as far as I know. Her father recently passed away, and she inherited a home in a rural town in the South. She also has a daughter living in that area.

After a lengthy job hunt, my friend received, and accepted, an offer last week. A year of unemployment was hard on everyone, but he's back on track after a fairly bumpy ride. And where is his wife? She's down South, where she's going to stay in Daddy's home for several more weeks, and on and off for the foreseeable future. My friend said to me last night that he's now a "part-time husband."

In other words, despite the fact that he's been supporting with a very nice lifestyle for years, and is committed to doing so for the rest of her life, she doesn't think this obligates her to actually be around. And he's putting up with this, because he has to. He's already down one marriage; he doesn't want to whiff a second time. So, she's decided she's not obligated to participate in any way with any of the obligations that come with being someone's partner, and he's resigned to it. As the Amish saying goes, "too soon old, too late smart."
