Friend of mine (m/46) called today and asked for advice. His marriage has been in trouble for some time now, but staying together for the three kids has been the mantra so far. Even after screaming around for every little thing in the house every day wasn't enough for his wife, she also had to deliberately beat onto his collarbone, that had been broken and performed surgery on a few days earlier, with a dustpan. Even after his wife was absent for two weeks and returned proclaiming she had been travelling with and fucked a rich guy she met on a dating platform. He is a very friendly guy and slightly autistic so he forgave her all that. The thing today was: His oldest one (m/15) is playing Fortnite 15h a day while coming home with the literally worst grades from school. So he thought it would be in order and necessary to limit (not forbid) his access to the game. Which wasn't received well by junior, who proceeded to beat him up for real - while his wife was filming them, proclaiming: "If you hit him back, I will get you in jail!" He defended himself as good as possible but was injured nonetheless, tried to evade, but junior kicked two doors in. He then fled the house and in his absence junior trashed his home office, including his desktop computer worth a few thousand bucks.

That's the story. I told him this is madness and that he had to move out and file papers as soon as he had spoken to an attorney and planned his approach properly. I'm pretty much in shock about this whole thing. It sounds like a ghetto story, but they are solidly middle class, physicians, both of them, of course with him working his ass off full time and her only when she feels like it. Which doesn't mean that she does anything at all at home besides screaming, complaining and protecting junior.

Let this be a warning to all of you. Almost never will anyone tell you on the street, at work or at a family party: "My marriage is hell." But more often than not, it is.
