Mind this is true for anything. Invest 10-20 years in video games and you will hate yourself all the same. Cascading failure scenario is to isolate your enjoyment in life to one or two things and they both let you down simultaneously. You will be in a world of hurt when that happens.

Focus your investment on your self. Learn new skills. Push personal physical records. Challenge yourself and your understanding of the world. Set your own goals, your charter and take the steps in that direction to making the goals a reality.

Whatever you do in this life avoid the cascading failure scenario. That will be the nemesis of your time on earth.
