A lot really don't anymore. There's not a lot of a point to it unless you want to start a family and get all the government recognition and tax benefits that come with marriage. It's probably not very smart legally speaking to have kids and not be married. It's also a statistical indicator of like every major social problem that exists.

Otherwise it's not really worth it. I have a gf and there's nothing I can't do now that I would be able to if we were married.

There are a lot of things we do as a society that if you stop and think about it, make no sense at all. But we were brought up on it, lived it all our lives and that’s all we know we are supposed to do. Since it’s xmas....why the hell do we cut down a pine tree and decorate it? All our childhood we never questioned it. Hint: it’s the leftover from pegan rituals that Christmas kept. It’s the same reason it’s on dec 24...winter solstice. So if all your life you’ve been told this is how it’s supposed to be, it’s hard to break that cycle.
