MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way) was coined around 2000, as the internet became more popular. Basically put together by men who rejected the idea of marriage in a world where divorce courts heavily favoured wives, feminism altered gender roles, etc.

It's not necessarily much different from bachelorism, except it involves a certain degree of TRP to understand today's relationship dynamics. Whereas Bachelorism may imply a man may still marry, MGTOW clearly defies marriage and common law marriage. If anything, MGTOW is more organized, but plenty of men out there are MGTOW without their knowledge, having had made a decision to reject serious relationships. MGTOW gives this a name.

This does not mean we reject women entirely, but we claim to understand them, know the game is rigged, and therefore find no reason to marry them.

"TRP" stands for The Red Pill. It's a reference to the Matrix movie where Neo is offered a red pill that will wake him up to what the world is really like, or he can take the blue pill and continue being asleep.

MGTOWs recognize the nature of all women, yes ALL women, not just western women. Although, Westerners are the prime example of female nature being publicly displayed.

You are proposing that Not-All-Women-Are-Like-That (NAWALT) which is usually a lie. AWALT. We talk in generalities about women. Read up on hypergamy.

Coining of Term - I read about this on a MGTOW website, apparently it had a different name and it was all done in secrecy. Sadly, I don't know much more about this. It seems to have "exploded" after the credit crunch though.

TRP - TheRedPill, /r/TheRedPill.

Organized - It's not a movement or activism. Men may find the organization helpful and more elaborated than simply "bachelorhood" or "bachelorism".

Understanding Women - This is where TRP steps in and MGTOW, unintentionally, became a sub-section from TRP. We're not saying that Western Women are gold diggers, so the solution is to get yourself a Thai wife, we're saying AWALT (All Women Are Like That). We're saying there are no unicorns. Love is conditional. Women are hypergamous and do shit-testing. Therefore, marriage is too much of a gamble and a bad deal for men.

A lot of this confuses people, men and women alike. People will assume lots of things. That MGTOW men are basement-dwelling virgins, incels, etc. In fact, there's lots of men who have been with plenty of women, got married, divorced, realized what a stupid mistake it was and are very happy to be single. Some are younger and see that the game is rigged. These either keep their relationships with women at a minimum, others keep them around as girlfriends but vow not to move in together or to commit. Others flat out believe women are crazy and not worth the hassle. Others are burned out or don't see the point of feeling pressured to build a family (keeping up with the Jones', getting that big mortgage for a McMansion, etc) so they opt out and live for themselves. It's difficult to pidgeonhole MGTOWers, but the general idea is: Women aren't that big a deal, don't marry.

if your validation of a movement/idea is tied to finding "academics"...you can find "academics" in pretty much any field...thus making the existence of "academics" to validate a movement or idea void because they exist everywhere.

i will say your thought on the position of MGTOW being "everyone is alike" is not accurate from my findings. A better analogy to me would be stating that all snowflakes are made of water, though each may be an individual expression...they all hold the characteristics of water and thus you can apply behaviors to all snowflakes based on they all share the properties of water. So you can give a broad generalization on women, men, etc. and still find individuality.

What MGTOW is claiming is the system in today's current environment is rigged against men and that your happiness is not tied to blindly following your previous brethren into marriage, etc. Do not let the possible fear of not "fitting into" societal norms prevent you from living your life as you see fit.

Yes, you will find angry and frustrated men within MGTOW and honestly, it is understandable when you see how the table is set against them. This is not an opinion, but a fact proven by statistics. The majority I find are just interested in a happier existence...who learn from life and make changes to their behavior. touch a hot stove, burn hand. touch again to see if it was a fluke or what, burn hand again, at some point you change your behavior and learn that the stove is hot and when you touch it, your hand gets burned. so really, for me, it is just gathering data and making changes like any intellectual, logical individual should. man or woman

Yup, why buy the cow indeed.

Read the sidebar on /r/TRP, all of it, then see for yourself if you agree with it or not. Some people on that subreddit can came off a bit angry/bitter with the woman-bashing, which can be tiring, but most guys get over that stage. There have been some studies done about women being unhappier with feminism, about hypergamy being real, Briffault's Law etc,.

Have a look at The Mouse Universe by John B. Calhoun, MGTOWers are "the pretty ones". Esther Villar's "The Manipulated Male" is quite an interesting read on the subject, although it is a very ranty, it's the closest thing to a MGTOW bible there is. Also, Aaron Clarey has awesome videos and books on the subject and he's quite a swell guy. "Men on Strike" by Helen Smith also touches on this subject.

But see, have a read through these things if you're interested, there's lots of research to do on your own (you could spend hours and hours on it). If you agree with it, fine, if not, that's fine too. It's not like we care or profit from it. Me, personally, I'm pretty happy.
