This is similar to a point I've tried to make to some "gay" people I know (quotes because I'm referring to both gay guys and a couple of lesbian women).
I tell them quite sincerely that there is no "cognitive dissonance" involved when I say that I really don't have a problem with them (or anyone) being "gay" -- but that I DO have a MAJOR problem with the promotion of the "gay lifestyle" (i.e. the reckless hedonism of the bathhouses, etc -- as is "on display" with virtually every so called "pride" parade).
I try to explain that it isn't that any particular sex act is "wrong" -- rather that certain sexual activities are far higher in terms of disease risk (and while condoms help to slightly reduce some of those risks, they don't come anywhere near to fully mitigated much less eliminating the risks) -- and of course even THAT wouldn't matter if it weren't for promiscuity.
The problem is with the "hookup" culture of both things like that (and "Grindr" etc) as well as similar things on the so called "straight" side (i.e. "Tinder" etc).
Any understanding of basic epidemiology should be reason enough to be concerned about partner counts; those who have a better understanding of more advanced epidemiology, and how virulence is often dramatically increased whenever an environment facilitates a RAPID spread, well their alarm bells should go off like crazy.
Keep in mind it isn't just the simple NUMBER of her partners that matters... but it also matters WHO they were (and how many total, and especially recent partners they have had).
If some local 17 year old cheerleader had engaged in sex with 100 different "geek" guys (and ended the virginity of each) -- well, she'd probably still be as disease free as when she herself was a virgin.
On the other hand, if her neighbor and co-cheerleader has just gotten back from "spring break" down in Florida... well even if she only got fucked by say 3 or 4 of the locals and/or college frat guys while there she's probably become a virtual "typhoid Mary" of STD's.
