That's not just usa exclusive problem, that's actually a problem in many countries. Thing is political parties rely on voters and the people who are already citizens almost always know their true colors hence are difficult to convince or manipulate. But if you protect some people who have no place, then they are indebted to you. And they are much more likely to vote you. And you can emotionally blackmail them "we gave you home when no one else did".

I don’t think it has anything to do with politics, more economics, fact is short term low wage, sub section in your labour market helps your economy.. and the US has benefited to a large degree from these people that are undefined in the law.

A bit like kiwis in Australia. You can get production without the cost or risk.

Election after election shows that 90% of Blacks vote Democrat. 70% Hispanics vote Democrat and 50% of Asians vote Democrat. Who doesn't vote Democrat? White people. So Democrats want open borders and flood the country with Blacks, Hispanics and Asians.

Google it. In the year 2043, White people become a minority in the US. That means if Republicans get 100% of the White vote, they still lose. That means in the future Democrats will win a majority of all election 100% of the time.

Both parties want to keep the entitlement spending train going and importing people is the only way to do so since the west empowered women. Now that we're just doing entitlement spending through deficit spending and quantitative easing its biting us in the ass as these people tend to be a net negative in terms of taxes v. welfare programs, meaning they take out far more than they pay in.

The real obvious answer is they are an important part of the economy. No one is going to pick strawberries or oranges etc for next to nothing. It's backbreaking miserable work. But it's good money for illegal immigrants. Legal immigrants might give it a shot but they can get better work.

Get rid of them and that $ 3.99 pack of strawberries is going to be $ 13.99. stuff we take for granted it's going to sky rocket in price.
