That's because they believe men all think like they do. The only frame of reference they have is themselves, so they assume men are as hypergamous as they are, and since no man will ever be good enough for them, they assume they in turn will never be good enough for a man. So they use ever increasing amounts of make-up so that their looks can chase their ever increasing standards.

This process makes them miserable.
