AJ Styles has been the most popular "babyface" wrestler in WWE for the past 2 years or so. He's currently negotiating a new contract, because people like Brock Lesnar and John Cena, they make significantly more than him despite working much less. His pay is similar to Undertaker, who's basically retired and works once a year.

AJ Styles is 41 years old. He does not have the leverage he thinks he does. Granted he's making a very comfortable salary, he's still overworked and underpaid compared to others doing the same thing.

In 2001, WWE (then WWF) offered him a developmental contract. He declined. Because, wait for it...

The relocation would have interfered with his wife's college plans who was studying to be a teacher.

We're talking MILLIONS of dollars left on the table here. AJ Styles proceeded to spend the next 15 year's working for basically every single known independent circuit, making quite a name for himself, finally signing with WWE in 2016. But he's never gonna get that John Cena money, that ship sailed. Because of a woman.

It's fitting that his current thing involves always getting kicked in the balls by his opponent, because that's basically what life did to him for 15 years.
