Dude, it ain't they money that's making you happy. It's the freedom to do what you want, think what you want, and relax in peace and quiet.

Some of the most miserable friends I've ever had worked in the tech field as either big IT consultants or software salesman, made 200k a year, still lived pay check to pay check or lost it all to their shitty girlfriends/wives with debt/student loans. Constantly stressed, on all sorts of psych meds, therapies, alternative designer pharmaceuticals, whole myriad of nootropics just to have normal brain function.

As soon as you put someone in that space who doesn't either enhance or keep your status quo, your happiness plummets.

Happiness comes from living within your means, and achieving what you set out to do, at your discretion. Happiness comes from real freedom. Personal agency. Getting home after work and making the decision "will I take a shower and pan sear some chicken breast, roast a yam, and fry up some spinach and then head to the gym or is tonight I night where I treat myself to some gourmet rootbeer and kettlecooked chips and a cigarette or two while I do nothing but binge on my favorite hobby for 6 hours. Or do I get these chores done?"

Don't misinterpret having some cash in your savings as the pinnacle of your existence. Money comes and goes, and the entire system you live in is designed from the ground up to siphon your money back up towards the top into very same pockets of the evil people who print it for free.

I have almost a quart mill in the checking account would gladly give you have to switch spots in my life. You could literally live like a king here in Thailand were I do with the money I have compared to the cost of living, but you'd likely kill yourself having to deal with this shit I have to endue day in a day out.

You do you dude. I personally would save up for a down payment on a house. You could get a house and it would cost as much as an apartment but in the end it is yours and you can do what you want with it. I would also save money, I would buy a 1oz bar of silver everyday and keep it in a safe. Money loses value.
