To some this kind of thinking might come across as snobbish, but I've noticed that dull, dumb people tend to exhibit poor spelling and a disregard for punctuation. It doesn't even depend on age. I've met very young people who were able to spell and write properly simply because they were smart and did a lot of reading in their spare time.
