People who talk about living forever and immortality have never really given it much thought beyond surface ideas. Also people that talk like that have only known the best that life has to offer from birth. It's natural under only ever knowing those conditions that you'd be a bit mad that all that good would one day come to an end. So they talk about living longer or forever without really understanding the true reality of what that would really entail if it could be achieved.
First off, the rules. Do only you the one person get to live forever or is this a widespread thing for the super rich, cause that would effect the long term prospects of anyone signing up. If it's just you then sure go ahead, but remember what you are signing up for.
Every 4/5 decades you will see the world you know die. By that I mean all the people around you, your family, hell your kids, wife, friends, way of life even, the changes all around the world, all of it gone and you will be left alone with nothing but memories. Memories of times past, times now gone forever. 50 years at best gets you there. Ok fair enough you kinda thought that would happen. So you start again. New wife, new kids, new friends, new places to live, new re-education to keep up with the changes that have come about over your life so far. So round two if you like, but here's the thing round two isn't is much fun as round one was. This time you have decades of experience and memories stuck in your head. So you compare your new life to your old, in some ways it may be better in others worse. Either way this is something that now fills up a lot of time in your head. But you get through it, you move on. Onwards and upwards. Then 50 years later all of that is again gone and you are once again back to square one. You've now lived for 120 years ( if you were 20 when you became immortal ) Been though two wives, two families, a ton of friends, a ton of education as you have to keep working to keep paying bills, but all your knowledge is continually becoming outdated by new things.
You've now seen your world end not once but twice and all that in 100 years. Now what? Start again of course what else is there. But this time you don't feel so keen on the idea. Knowing all this will repeat in a few decades at most and again you will end up back here. You are also getting weary of work, hell you can never retire but money still needs to be made. By now the losses you have personally witnessed have also taken their toll. So you carry on but become withdrawn and closed in. You no longer seek a wife or family and go MGTOW knowing it to be futile. Sure you will still seek out friends but keep them distant knowing that they too will blow away in time but you will still be here.
Lets see how long this lasts, hell lets be generous and give you another 100 years of keeping to yourself and working and just relaxing. Lets say you focus on making money, real money this time. So you again study and learn and invest and work and you do, you do make it big. Now you have money at the back of you, huge amounts. Ok great so now you don't need to work to survive unlike the last two hundred years. You really can sit back and relax. So you do. For 50 years you waste millions, play with cash like a kid in a casino. Pursue craze after craze, splash the cash and keep going till, it's all gone. Yes you went and spent the whole damn lot. It was fun, my God it was fun and it sure helped fill the time up but now the loot is all gone. Oh dear. Looks like it's back to work. But wait the world has again moved on in the last 50 years and this time you didn't keep up, you were too busy spending money. Damn.
You are now 270 years of age. Or so they tell you because you don't really remember. Hell in truth you don't remember much beyond the last 10/15 years. The human brain is not capable of storing an infinite amount of knowledge. Your families, friends, all the places you went, all the things you did. Blank. Gone. Photos and writings tell you did and had all these things but to you, it might as well have happened to someone else.
Back to school you go. Again getting up to current standard and getting back out there in the job market. On the plus side with your memory near wiped you can start a third family and you do. 50 years later of course it is gone. And that's how it goes, on and on. Over and over. Repeat, repeat, repeat. In 500 years you have made and wasted a fortune twice, been married 6 times and seen ( although you won't remember it ) the world, your world at least end ten times.
This cycle will repeat with slight variations for the next million years. At that point the world, this world will be abandoned and you will be on the flight out to the next planet. In this case Mars. Terraformed since 2557 it now looks exactly like earth used to around the space year 1986. A million years later you will leave it for Io. 22,000 years after arriving there you again leave this time for interstellar space as the ships begin to leave our now dying solar system. You've lived a long time and you remember none of it. Which is just as well because if you had kept all that in your head you would long ago have gone utterly insane. However long it takes you to reach a new earth when you do you will just carry on as you have for so long. Everything you've done. Everything you've lived through thus far was just in cosmic time terms just day 1. Now you get to start day 2.
That's how it plays out if just one person gets to live forever. However as I said about rules what if everyone or at least the super rich get to play, then what?
Well, an already overcrowded planet now has lets say tens of thousands that can't die on it. The poor still die of course but the rich just get richer or in this case just go on living. Like the fella in the first story these folk are met with the same choices and options that he faced only instead of watching everything around them die off and having to start over these jokers can just carry on as they are. They don't lose their families, friends or way of life. It just carries on, and on, and on. Luckily they also over time lose the ability to remember and start each decade more or less anew. Since they were all rich to begin with they need not work, instead they get to play around. The idle rich you might say. Unconcerned with the little people these new age playboys carry on living the high life right up until it's time to leave the planet. They are of course the first ones out. Ditto Mars. Ditto Io. Ditto the next Earth. On it goes. A super elite that exists just for the sake of existing. Of no real use to anybody outside their own closed circle. Exploiting the resources of everyone under them. For them I guess living forever wasn't so bad. It was lucky though that their memories faded and were lost otherwise just like guy 1 they would have long, long ago gone utterly mad.
Where does it end for both groups? I guess the final death of the universe. That's a very long way off of course but it is out there creeping up on us. So I guess on the last day they will still be out there, still only capable of recalling the last few decades, everything else long forgotten. Having one final brandy before it finally does end.
So yeah that's along the lines of how living forever would play out in reality. I guess most folks just don't think it through though when they pipe up about never dying. But lets just say it's not all it's cracked up to be. That goes for Yahweh as well. All these same problems arise exactly the same in Heaven. Forever is a very long time.
