I used to work for a privately owned IT security company in the UK that was not on any kind of stock market but always planned to float at some point.

One of the perks of working here was that every year we would have a bonus ( up to 10% of salary depending on meeting goals ) and they also had an employee share scheme where you could buy up to 10% of your salary in shares every year around bonus time. To qualify for the share buy scheme the shares were in my name as the actual employee.

I used to just take my hard earned bonus and put it into company shares.

They floated around 5 years ago and I sold 80% of my holding and made around 20K ( nice! ) and spent it on house/family stuff.

Roll forwards to April this year and the company was bought out and now my remaining holding is worth 26K. I know ..i should have held onto it. As a good husband.. I put 5k into her savings account.

All good.

Now I earn approx 60% of the household income and we have a shared account but my wife is good with the kids, does most of the cooking household stuff so its a good partnership.

The problem is, for my wife, that I enjoy online porn and probably spend 100 or so a month on it. I earnt the money and I refuse to feel bad about.

Now she says that she wants to split the accounts and she does not want any of her money going into my porn use. To be clear I earn way more than she does so in the long run I will be better off.

Should I ask for the 5k back as I put this into her savings when we were a single team with a single account etc etc. I feel like an idiot just giving her all that cash :s
