I have been a lurker on this subreddit for a little while now, but at this point, I can't get by without venting about how much my life has been fucked up by the "Nice guy" complex. I'm 41 and I am having a hard time coming to grips with how this complex has messed with me. I took the advice and started reading NMMNG and it opened my eyes to personality traits that were literally killing me. So much of my life had been spent trying to gain the approval of other people and when I did not get their approval, I tired to double down on the same strategies.

I thought that all my problems would be gone by trying to be the best fill in the fucking blank dude I could be, but boy was I wrong.
