I'm just checking in to say Good Luck.

My father fought for custody of me when my Mum cheated on him and left both him and I when I was just age 7. At the time he was working 12 hour night shift work and was a single parent for many many years. I was forced to live a week with my Mum and then a week with my Dad until I was 12 years old - I was then able to make my own choice.

While my Mother didn't abuse me - in fact we had a very positive relationship. I decided to stay with my Dad because he never gave up on me and did his absolute best for me even through the hard times and I only hope that one day I can repay him by looking after him when he has retired.

I love both of my parents equally but when I was mature enough to see what my Dad went through - and how the courts screwed him out of money and put him under a lot of unnecessary stress - that definitely had a big impact when I chose to live with him.

If there are no court filings already then you need to go file child support on yourself. I don't know what the laws are in your area, so you probably want to consult a lawyer.

Make sure there's no way she can counter suit against you if you file, otherwise she will get the benefit of being the plaintiff. I can't remember the actual term used, but that what happened in my case. I filed child support and she counter-filed with a divorce. Make sure there's nothing she can file against you like common-law divorce, etc.

Get a restraining order against both her and her new boy toy. You probably don't think you need it, but do it anyway. Do it before she does it to you, that way you have a court order that prevents her from being able to play the kind of games that empower women in the first place.

edit ~ I just read further that this case has some history. Get a lawyer. There are some father-friendly law services that are cheap or even free and give out great advice. Again, good luck. You're going to need it.
